What a stupid mom

Published:Wednesday | May 8, 2019 | 12:00 AM

THE EDITOR, Sir:

I just read an article titled ‘What a stupid girl!’ (Jamaica Observer, May 6, 2019) and honestly, I’m thinking, “What a stupid mom; such a lack of parenting.” How can you call your own child of 24 years, an adult, stupid for doing something that is right? Something that, I am sure, if it had gone the other way, you would have scolded her much worse than you are now.

I think we fail to understand that poverty doesn’t equal injustice, being inhumane or forgetting the fact that we all have a social responsibility.

If there is one thing I know, it’s that everything happens for a reason, and every good comes with a reward. So the child, your child that you are currently scolding for doing the RIGHT thing, I’m sure will be recognised for the good that she has done, and will be rewarded in a way that will even benefit you as her mother.

Parents and potential parents, think about things before you say it to your child/children. It’s not always about what you think as the parent, but what you should say as a parent, knowing the society your child will go out there to experience and even adapt to. Ensure you are leading your child to be on the right side of things.

On another note: How does one forget a bag full of money (which is his duty to secure and transport) in an ATM, as the story stated? Trouble.
