Edward Seaga – a builder indeed!

Published:Thursday | May 30, 2019 | 12:20 AM

Despite the prior knowledge that he was ailing in a hospital overseas, it was with deep sadness that I learnt of the passing of Hon Edward P.G. Seaga, former prime minister of Jamaica.

He was indeed a legendary political figure and visionary leader who created many institutions, policies and structures which will forever impact the cultural, economic, constitutional and socio-economic life of Jamaica.

Mr Seaga’s significant contribution to the development of post-independence Jamaica is unquestionable and we should thank the late former prime minister for important legislations such as the Charter of Fundamental Rights and Freedoms (Constitutional Amendment) Act, 2011.

His passing marks the end of a significant era. My deepest condolences to Mr Seaga’s family and constituents.

Rest in peace, Papa Eddie. You’ve run a great race! You have left a significant legacy for Jamaica.
