Fix May Pen flood problem now
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I need to highlight a pending catastrophe.
Only last week, I saw on the news a picture of a flooded Howard Avenue and Western Park. This section of May Pen, Clarendon was always flood-prone – from I was a child. However, what I viewed on TV was comparable to the mid west states in America now being flooded.
This is frightening. With the presence of climate change, the extremes in weather patterns will only create greater flooding. Please, National Works Agency, and its chief executive officer, Mr E.G. Hunter, take Minister Mike Henry seriously and fix the Sour Sop Turn defect, as this is impacting May Pen negatively.
We cannot afford to wait until the entire town of May Pen is washed away into the belly of the Rio Minho.
Act now. Be proactive. We do not want to count the victims of drowning.
