4 West swamped by garbage pile-up
THE EDITOR, Sir:
I am at my wits’ end with regard to the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA). On Tuesday, June 4, 2019, I was awakened shortly before midnight as the (un)dependable garbage collectors had arrived in 4 West, Greater Portmore, for the first time in two weeks.
Despite the ruckus being created by the blaring of a truck horn, I was relieved that the two-week-old garbage was finally being disposed of.
However, after the collection was done, I could not return to sleep. This was because I wondered to myself, who could have authorised the NSWMA to, without warning, arrive in my area at the hour they did?
Anyway, at the time of my writing on Wednesday, July 3, the garbage collectors have not returned since that midnight escapade. That now makes it four weeks since the last collection. After several calls to the NSWMA, I was eventually told about the entity not having enough trucks to collect my garbage. While collections have not been done weekly, as expected, it has never reached this level of delay.
Where are my representatives, and who will pay my bill when the area gets overrun with disease-carrying pests?
We need help, NSWMA!
