Prayer breakfast a waste of time
THE EDITOR, Sir:
If the annual National Leadership Prayer Breakfast isn’t a waste of time, I’m not sure what explains the unaffected crime rate if God is listening.
Religious leaders’ favourite explanation is 2 Chronicles 7:14, which basically says that if God’s people would repent of their sins and turn from their evil ways, the God of heaven would hear their cries and heal the land. It’s almost like saying if you cease from your violence and murder, God will make murder and violence cease.
However, why would a righteous God of Justice be swayed to ignore his own standards in listening to our requests to ignore his? Nothing could be more twisted and ridiculous. And in case we believe that God is responding to our pleas for assistance, it wouldn’t speak well of the quality of his intervention with a crime rate climbing even harder in spite.
The prayer breakfast is a waste of breath.
