JPS not serious about power theft

I recently travelled to Jamaica and saw the full extent of electricity theft all across the island. In one community, I did not see one legal connection. One of the residents told me that the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) comes around occasionally and takes down the wires. But as soon as the truck turns the corner, the wires are back up again.

My ‘JPS thieving’ guide also advised that when the truck was coming, people down the road would phone and residents would take down their wires.

JPS needs to get serious. In any civilised country, they would be facing a class action by those who of us who have to foot the bill for this rampant theft.

My light bill is too high – and we all know why!
