The Transport Operators Development Sustainable Service (TODSS) welcomes Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ recent suggestion for the possible return to face-to-face classes and should be encouraged by all stakeholders.

While online learning is the new normal for education globally, serious consideration must be given to the social and physiological impact of children using their homes as a classroom, which has its challenges.

It has always been our view, as a sector, that the classroom is the best place for learning. It is important to note that learning has a human connectivity element, the public transport sector stands to benefit from the reopening of the schools. We are currently losing around 65 per cent of our daily income due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The schools can offer safe environment, and with the necessary support the pubic transport can be made safer for travel. Further, we can ensure the safety and well-being of our students, and that all the COVID-19 protocols are observed. We welcome the suggestion of re-opening of the schools, with all protocols followed.
