Dancehall artiste Beenie Man has been charged with breaches of the Disaster Risk Management and Noise Abatement acts. Beenie Man is alleged to have hosted a prohibited event on Sunday, November 29, in Shrewsbury district, St Elizabeth.
Here are some of the readers’ reactions sourced from The Gleaner’s social media pages:
Well, he’s now that guy. But word in the streets is that some ppl had cocktail party on yacht! Summn go suh?
– @willryanwilson
I’m not generally a fan of Beenie, but what became of the ‘more’ popular person who hosted a party? Like the famous one ... am curious to know ... sigh, this one will end like a ‘lightning bolt’.
– @happy_jamaican
Yes. Don’t care is who, him could have money some more. Charge him, cause them make good suffer for the bad. I want virus to left Jamaica for this 2021.
– @WalkerNiegen
Sorry Beenie, you should have done it on a sandy bank on a pretty boat with a lighter shade of partygoers to avoid charges.
– @dardgr8
It takes them an entire month to charge him for hosting an event. Two months for the charges to be dropped ...?
– @candyandrew23
What about the yacht party crew? What is it? Uptown versus downtown ?
– @MeatsCamcook
Beenie Man, to whom much is given, much is required. The platform you have built over the years should be used as a template for positive guidance for the voiceless of the society.
– @Errol Coleman
Why oonu never charge the others that have parties. Why oonu never warn him like how oonu warn those on the yacht? John crow say the world no level, an a true. What goes for the goose goes for the gander ... not supporting what he did or was about to do, but deal with everyone who breaks the COVID rule just the same.
– @Janice Hart-Tomlinson
There is obviously no equity in our justice system. It is so blatantly clear. We need to stand up as a nation against inequality. The clear message is that COVID only keep below Torrington Bridge.
– @Patrick Foster
Seems he is the first and only person to break the law. I hope those bashing him never break the law before or do anything illegal. Him wrong yes, but why some people a rejoice?
– @De’Unstoppable Shaneek Banton
He had to get charged, he has nothing in common with those partying on Lime Cay. His complexion and texture hair are vastly different and that is what matters. I feel a way to be black living right here in Jamaica when it comes to how the laws are seen. – @Sharon Stewart
This the second time you sir, are coming under the microscope re questionable actions during this COVID pandemic, and we know you know better. What’s the difficulty you’re having sir? – @Truddiann Titus
I’m sure he will be dealt with swiftly ... – @sandycurlz
Still waiting on the crime plan. – @mark_izeda_barnett
You shoulda know better, especially since you called out “that guy” on national television. – @ijeminii1111
Old dawg like me. Who am I?! – @islandgirl2kids
