Talkback Friday: Do you plan on taking the COVID-19 vaccine?

Published:Friday | March 12, 2021 | 12:07 AM

On Monday, Jamaica received its first shipment of COVID-19 vaccines from India amid a surge of local infections. The administration of the vaccine began Thursday. Here are the readers’ responses via The Gleaner’s social media platforms:

NO I will not. I have no comorbidities. Only if it becomes MANDATORY to gain access locally & globally. I must be able to travel & move around freely.

– @progress47

I’ll be taking it in 2022 ... give it to the people with non-communicable diseases first.

– @Nomad30665967

Can’t plan fi take wa ppl no offer you.

– @kakafaat

Most definitely ... I’m high risk, with diabetes and hypertension. Wonder if I could be in the first batch?

– @Paula Barnett

Yes, d amount a vaccine mi get from mi born why not? Mi want the country to open up properly so poor ppl who are deeply affected can go out and go hustle for them and their family. I’ll be one of his sacrifices if the vaccine is that bad as ppl say.

– @Petrus Kepha

Unfortunately, no. Only if it becomes mandatory for work ... I mean bills have to be paid and kids depending on you to eat. Wishing this pandemic was just a dream.

– @Shan Shan Nessie Boo

I haven’t caught it and thank God no one in our household has. I won’t be first in line, thank God again I’m not a front-line worker. I do trust and believe God has a plan for his people. I serve a God of the impossible who works beyond my expectations I will not limit his power by modern science and cripple his hands by fear or step from under his coverage by following my flesh and become rebellious.

Need more discussion on this vaccine:

1. What are the side effects?

2. Person with what type of underlying sickness should not take it?

3. How effective is this vaccine?

4. Is there more effective vaccine than this?

5. Why did some countries refuse this vaccine?

So many questions need to be answered.

Yes … but I hope it will be the Johnson and Johnson single dosage one, if not, I’ll take whichever one available.
