People need to speak up against crime
THE EDITOR, Madam:
COVID-19 is devastating – and is sending many people to their graves before their time. In Jamaica, though, the crime problem is more devastating because it has been with us for decades, and thousands of lives are lost every year.
What do you think about a country where the majority of young people are listening to violent lyrics? We are in serious trouble as these violent lyrics breed crime. Worse, we keep on sweeping this under the carpet and are looking the other way.
It is very important for the leaders of this country to come forward and address these issues. They need to talk about what they are doing to put an end to the crime and violence in our country. Also, they need to talk about the lewd lyrics in songs and what their plan is to put a stop to it.
The silence of the people in these matters is also not helping. Just by talking about the music and the crime is not enough. People need to speak up when there is lewd music being played in public transport. If there is just talk and no action, the whole purpose of finding solutions will be defeated.
If there continues to be just talk and no action, we are heading down a slippery slope.
