Support Mike Henry’s push for reparation
THE EDITOR, Madam:
We write to publicly congratulate Lester Michael Henry, who has weathered the storm over these years with very little acknowledgement and/or support from the political system.
His vision and determination had become more relevant during this era and even before, knowing that what he is seeking repatriation for should be of concerns to us, the offsprings of our ancestors who had suffered the scourge of slavery, which had exploited the moral fibre of humanity. It is the hard work and labour of these slaves that contributed to the thriving of British rule.
The greatest atrocities that could be meted out to us the offsprings, is that the plantation owners were paid large and/or tidy sums of money and endless privileges for the so-called discontinuation of slavery, instead of compensating the offsprings for the deprivation and denial that slavery had left on us. Even today, a lot of those with darker skin shade are worst off.
We pray for Lester to the Almighty, that through his Son our Saviour and Redeemer Christ Jesus, he will be around to witness that Christ-felt peace and tranquillity.
As our national hero Marcus Garvey said: “A people without knowledge of their past history, origin and culture is like a tree without roots.”
