Hope in agriculture
THE EDITOR, Madam:
In Minister Floyd Green’s Budget presentation in the House a few days ago, it brought joy to my heart to hear that agriculture will get a big boost in all areas, so that it will feed the nation in abundance and help to grow the economy. Consequently, we all can eat what we grow and grow what we eat.
Agriculture is the main sector that I see can boost growth, while enabling more of our young people who leave school to be self employed by starting something in their backyard, if they don’t have land to do so. They can develop from there and buy their own land to extend their business and be a large farmer.
When I listened to the agriculture and fisheries minister, I received something from his basket of goodies – that of youth empowerment and help to show our farmers how to produce more, so that they can earn more to maintain their families.
What I see is the minister holding the hands of all farmers and, by extension, all Jamaicans, through a difficult time and giving them hope with all the new proposals he has put on the table. I must comment him for such an excellent start.
I believe most of our young people who are now in school will soon fall in love with agriculture.
