Letter of the Day | Sexual harassment of women is a huge problem
THE EDITOR, Madam:
Dionne Jackson Miller in her programme, ‘Beyond the Headlines’, spoke some time ago about women who are being sexually harassed by men on the streets.
Some women have also spoken about the ways in which these men have unleashed their sexual advances towards them, by using unpleasant words to describe their body parts. Many women are going through hell, and cannot walk in peace, on the streets because they are being taunted and provoked.
There is another problem which needs to be urgently addressed – that of lewd music and violent lyrics which are being played on many radio stations, in public spaces and places, which is also contributing to the sexual harassment of women.
When you hear a song with inappropriate lyrics being played on national radio, what kind of message are we sending? We are doing the wrong thing. We are inviting trouble. Sexual harassment of women in this country is a big problem.
We should not take this lightly; we should not give an inch more to immorality in Jamaica. The cup is full, and overflowing.
