Weekend vaccination blitz not enough

THE EDITOR, Madam

It seems to me that if Government of Jamaica is to succeed in vaccinating 70 to 80 per cent of the country’s population, then weekend blitzes will not suffice. If we have to vaccinate our people within a reasonable period of time, then there should be week-long vaccination blitzes across the island once the vaccine supplies increase in the coming weeks and months.

If and when such a ‘super rol-out’ is initiated by the Ministry of Health & Wellness, companies must be encouraged be willing to allow their employees to get the free time necessary to receive their first and/or second jabs.

As is taking place in America, vaccination incentives have been employed and have worked for the most part. Locally, my suggestion is that the GOJ consider a raffle – with some sort of a prize being given.

Right now, with the low vaccination rate and number of Jamaicans who are fully vaccinated being very minimal , we need extended blitzes to enable us to reopen the country.
