Stop styrofoam use

Published:Monday | July 19, 2021 | 12:05 AM

The 2019 ban on single-use plastic bags in Jamaica was is a start, and I believed the ban was also on styrofoam, which is just as harmful as plastic to the environment. However, there seems to be no reduction in styrofoam usage, especially in the supermarkets. Vegetables, cheese, fruit, meat, etc are still being packaged in styrofoam, and it being used widely.

A stronger message must be sent to those who violate the styrofoam ban; there should be heavy fines imposed on businesses who use styrofoam for packaging. The warning must be louder, clearer and effective.
