Letter of the Day | Norbrook robbed of peace and tranquillity
THE EDITOR, Madam:
People invest heavily to own, rent or mortgage a home in Jamaica, and as a resident of Norbrook Drive, Kingston 8, for many years; I would like to use this forum to highlight some issues causing a decline in the quality of life for us residents in this lovely area.
Some residents think that it is acceptable to burn their garden trash. Let this be a reminder to all that it is in fact illegal, environmentally damaging, as well as dangerous for the health of one’s neighbours in their immediate vicinity. Please stop it!
Norbrook Drive (and Norbrook Road) are very dangerous roads that see cars and bikes using it as a racetrack. It has produced many accidents with drivers speeding excessively over the 50-kilometre-per-hour speed limit.
Additionally, to the ridiculous speed, some also have insanely illegal deafening mufflers, which wake you from sleep, drown out the volume on your television, and, in some instances, give one a small heart attack as the rapid, loud backfiring of some of these engines sound like a barrage of gunfire at close range. It needs to stop!
This road is long overdue for the placement of speed bumps. The placement of speed bumps will cut the speed, decrease accidents, as well as reduce noise pollution. Speed bumps have recently been placed in adjoining communities such as Carmel Avenue, Cherry Gardens, and Russell Heights, so why not in Norbrook? This noisy, dangerous, speed track needs stopping in its tracks now!
A VERY FED UP
