Ivermectin is effective against coronavirus
THE EDITOR, Madam
I write with reference to The Gleaner’s editorial of July 29, titled ‘Why not bite the COVID bullet now?’ It has been reported that the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh quashed the surge in cases of the Delta variant in less than two months. One of the pillars of their strategy was early treatment using the repurposed drug Ivermectin. The various groups touting Ivermectin as a solution to this pandemic point to evidence that the drug appears effective in preventing transmission, in addition to ameliorating the worst effects of the disease. The data from countries that have wholeheartedly embraced this drug as a solution strongly suggest that it is by far the best choice for ending this pandemic in short order.
If Jamaica continues depending on the solution decreed by the World Health Organization, we could be fighting this thing forever. I submit that making Ivermectin available over the counter and administering it to every individual that shows coronavirus symptoms, as soon as they appear would rid us of this scourge in a matter of weeks.
Supporting data is available from web sites of the non-profit organisations, the Front Line COVID-19 Critical Care Alliance and the British Iivermectin Recommendation Development Group.
