Letter of the Day | Make COVID-19 tests mandatory for all
THE EDITOR, Madam:
This is in response to The Gleaner article on mandatory vaccines. It saddens me greatly that employers are beginning to fall into this ‘mandatory vaccine’ trap and openly discriminating against people who have exercised their human right of choice. I have no problem as a person who has not been vaccinated to provide a weekly negative COVID-19 test, albeit at my own expense, but feel I am being openly discriminated against as my colleagues who are vaccinated are not required to provide the same to prove that they are COVID-19 negative.
Why is it I am seen as more of a threat when the vaccinated can be COVID-19 positive, showing no symptoms, walking in and out of businesses, interacting with several persons a day, and not required to show any proof?
Imagine the impact if the Jamaican travel industry adopted this approach and took it for granted that all vaccinated employees were free from COVID-19. Their interaction with thousands of persons a day could result in a major problem for the island.
Rather than spend time on creating a divide between vaccinated and unvaccinated persons, make weekly tests mandatory for all those who are employed, this would protect all workers and clients alike.
