How is the US helping us?

THE EDITOR, Madam:
This is an open letter to Minister of National Security Dr Horace Chang.
The purpose of this letter is to request that you periodically, for example, every six months or one year, publish a report on illegal guns flowing into Jamaica from the United States of America (US), the total number of guns seized by the police in that period, and, out of that total, how many were illegal guns from the US.
The Jamaican people want something that they can relate to in a tangible way.
On June 1, 2018, The Gleaner published a 2016 report, ‘70 per cent of guns seized in Jamaica in 2016 sourced in US’. This is not tangible.
The source of the report was from the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
In addition to all the help we are getting from the US to ease the flow of illegal guns from the US into Jamaica, Jamaicans are not convinced that this is really helping.
So, please make this unequivocally clear to the Jamaican people how the US is helping Jamaica to ease the flow of illegal guns into Jamaica.
