Stop the mayhem!

THE EDITOR, Madam:

The lives of numerous operators of small businesses – community shops, taxis, street-side vendors, to name a few – are being snuffed out by notorious gunmen.

These acts of violence have affected the society in that families are separated, as oftentimes the victims were the main breadwinner.

Children are sometimes unable to attend school because they might have to assist with the business or fend for themselves in the absence of the breadwinner.

In the last week or two, at least three shop owners have been killed. My nephew was gunned down at his place of business in 2021.

When will the mayhem stop? Business owners and decent law-abiding citizens live in fear of these criminals. If operators are being killed at this rate, this will have serious implications for families, communities and the society in general.
