Put median on North Coast Highway
THE EDITOR, Sir:
Another horrific crash on the north coast corridor has brought into focus the need for urgent solutions. The behaviour change among road users, to reduce reckless and dangerous driving practices, is a long process and will take decades.
An important, easy-to-implement first step would be to make a dual carriageway of most, if not all, of the North Coast Highway corridor with a concrete median. If we check and see, we can find that the number of crashes on roads that have medians are much less than those without. There may an argument about ‘resource constraints’, but say that to those who have lost loved ones or whose families have lifelong medical bills to pay.
