Step off that high horse, Minister Tufton

THE EDITOR, Madam:

I read with avid interest Sharlene Lawson’s letter that appeared in your esteemed publication last Wednesday, March 29, in which she brought Health and Wellness Minister Christopher Tufton’s seemingly self-entitled persona into question, at the recent meeting of the Joint Select Committee on the Tobacco Control Act, 2020 in Parliament.

Unsurprisingly, I concurred with many of her articulated and clearly insightful observations regarding Minister Tufton. In particular, she was spot on in noting that the erudite but egotistical minister “continues to maintain that his ambitions are for the public good, but his consistent protest behaviour and international pandering suggest otherwise”.

I stand apart from Tufton sycophants who have heaped praise at his ministerial run in the health sector, and clearly, I am not alone, as I find company with Ms Lawson. Contrary to what appears to be sterling duty, I find to be feigned sincerity in his role. A healthy dose of humility truly matters. Here’s a kindly word of advice to the minister: step off that high horse. It bodes well to remember that you are a servant to the Jamaican people.
