Letter of the Day | Play the dunce game
THE EDITOR, Madam:
The hot topic being discussed about the ‘Dunce’ bags is very interesting, serious and hilarious all at the same time.
A few years ago, the word would cause agony and pain to a student; now it’s the new buss word trending and being celebrated, because one of our DJs, in his wisdom, thinks it’s okay.
My advice to the principals, and schools in general, is to play them at their own game.
Get all the students with the ‘Dunce’ bags in one room. Using the Spelling Bee method, they must write an essay about the origin and definition of the word. In addition, they should give ten reasons why it’s okay to be a dunce.
These essays should be read in the presence of the parents, and the best one placed on the bulletin board for every eye to see, and record the reaction.
The prophet of all prophets declared that a time would come when foolishness would occupy a major part of Earth’s landscape. So sad that it is happening right in front of our eyes and we don’t even know it.
I pity the so-called parents. I’m sorry for the confused children. And for the educators, I pray.
