Tips on How to Deal with Stress

Published:Thursday | May 25, 2017 | 2:36 PM

We all get stressed at some point in our lives, but it is how we deal with it that really matters.

Here are a few tips on how to deal with different signs of stress from life coach Elizabeth Terry.

If you suffer from sleeplessness develop a night-time routine. This could include turning off the television an hour before bed, drinking herbal tea like chamomile, having a warm bath and reading something soothing.
You can also create a worry pad to get a rid of all that is bothering you. Write them all done and let it go. Doing a soothing exercise like yoga can also help.

Excessive Irritability or aggressiveness

Observe your behaviour and notice the inner pictures which you have created while the situation is occurring. Get rid of them. Replace with positive images and happier moments to prevent you from staying in this state for an extended period.

Feeling anxious all the time

The first thing we need to do is to figure out how to prioritise. Sort through the pile one by one. Make a list, starting with the most important. Reschedule to another day if you can, or even another month. Use due dates beside each item so that you can create a workable plan of action to get everything accomplished exactly when it needs to be done. You can even delegate and ask for help where possible.

Sometimes we see ourselves not achieving what we set out to do. When this happens, change your focus and seek ways to accomplish goals.

Frequent illness

The above mentioned will assist with improving your health.
Take the time to include fun and laughter in your daily routine. The more you do this,  the more you will find it easier to filter your stress through good humour.

Overeating or drinking

You have to identify that you are having a problem. Keeping a food journal will help to highlight and control this.
