Health Minister Dr Fenton Ferguson - File

Minister of Health Dr Fenton Ferguson is to address the nation tonight on the chikungunya outbreak in Jamaica.

In his address, the minister will speak to various issues including partnerships forged to combat the spread of the disease.

The broadcast will be aired on 10 radio stations and all four national television stations, including Love TV and PCBJ, between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Thirty one cases of the Chikungunya virus have so far been confirmed in Jamaica and the health ministry says there are 194 suspected cases.

However, the Opposition Jamaica Labour Party believes the numbers are grossly under reported and has blasted the government for what the party says is the slow response to tackle the outbreak.
