Education ministry releases GSAT 2015 scholarship winners

Tariq Wright of Holy Childhood Prep and Academy in Kingston is the recipient of the Top Boy Scholarship in the Grade Six Achievement Test (GSAT).

Candice Owens of Unity Primary in Westmoreland and Darielle Edwards of Wolmer's Prep in Kingston have tied for the Top Girl Scholarship.

The scholarships were revealed by the Ministry of Education this afternoon. The top performing boy and girl scholarships are being presented by the Scotiabank Foundation.

Tariq will be attending the Wolmer's Boy's School in Kingston, while Darielle and Candice will be attending the Wolmer's Girl's School in Kingston and Manning's High in Westmoreland, respectively.

Other top scholars include: James Welds of the Corinaldi Avenue Primary School in St James, who this year receives the Marcus Garvey scholarship for the top boy from a primary, all-age or primary and junior high school.

The JAG Smith scholarship for the top girl from a primary, all-age or primary and junior high school will go to Angelisa McIntosh.

Government scholarships have been awarded to 16 girls and 14 boys.
