J'can recognised for contribution to diaspora community
June Daley, president of the Miss Jamaica UK pageant, was recently honoured with a special award that recognises her organisation's contribution to the Jamaican community in the United Kingdom (UK) for more than 25 years.
The award, which seeks to honour those who have had a positive impact on promoting Caribbean culture in the UK, was presented by Miss Teen Caribbean UK's chief executive officer and founder Sherika Miller on Saturday, July 18, at the prestigious Tabernacle venue in Nottinghill, London. There were many distinguished community members and other pageant directors in attendance.
Herself a former Miss Jamaica UK contestant, Miller was inspired to develop a pageant that would aim at the young female diaspora who are in the 13-17 age group.
