Five cops charged in beating death of mentally ill man return to court today

The five policemen charged with the beating death of a mentally ill Trelawny man are expected to return to court today. 

District Constables Alwayne Eccleston, Onecko Brown and Sergeant Derrick Henry are charged with murder, while District Constables Desmond Lawrence and Tristan Turner are charged with neglect of duty.

They are to appear in the Clark's Town Resident Magistrate's Court.

The charges against the five cops stemmed from allegations that they were involved in an attack on Clarke on October 20, 2013, while he was in the lock-up at the Falmouth Police Station.

Clarke, who received injuries from the alleged beating, died in hospital in February 2014.
