JLP N.E. St Catherine prospect never applied before to represent the seat - constituency executive

The executive of the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) North East St Catherine constituency says it has identified a suitable ‘prospective’ candidate for the next election, following the resignation of sitting Member of Parliament Gregory Mair.

In a release this morning, the JLP's constituency executive said the prospective candidate will be recommended to the party's leadership after a brief period of consultation with party workers.

The JLP has not named the prospective candidate, but says the person has never sought to represent the constituency before. The prospect is also yet to submit a formal application to the party’s secretariat to represent the seat.

Mair, who was first elected to parliament in 2007, resigned with immediate effect as chairman of the constituency last Thursday and announced that he would not contest the seat in the next general elections.
