The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has started a probe into this morning's fatal shooting of a man by a police team along Collie Smith Drive in Kingston.

Shortly after the shooting, several residents took to the streets to protest.

They say shortly after six o'clock, 24-year-old Andrew Gayle was picking ackees when members of a police team searching for a wanted man, ordered him to stop.

The residents say the police then fired at Gayle, hitting him.

According to them, Gayle ran into a nearby yard where he was again shot.

He died on the spot.

Police personnel were maintaining a close watch on the area as the residents cry for justice.

The residents say Gayle was not a member of any gang.

They described him as a self-employed barber and artist who was mistaken for someone else.
