UPDATE: Clan Carthy to have furniture by Monday - Thwaites
Education Minister, Ronald Thwaites says adequate furniture will be in place at Clan Carthy High School in Kingston by next Monday.
The administration of Clan Carthy reportedly has had to ask hundreds of students to stay away from school on certain days because of a shortage of furniture.
Parents have reportedly expressed concern about the situation.
The Education Minister’s announcement follows a meeting today with representatives of the school’s board and management.
During the meeting, school officials disclosed that 120 desk and chairs have been ordered and are expected to be delivered on the weekend.
The Education Ministry says this will complete the initial shortfall of 300 pieces of furniture.
Minister Thwaites told the school leaders that the decision to keep approximately 200 students away from school for a day, to cope with the lack of furniture, should have been discussed with the Education Ministry first.
The Education Minister also instructed the school leaders to ensure that make-up classes are provided for the students who were absent.
