Culture Minister Lisa Hanna has warned that no construction will be allowed to take place in the Blue and John Crow Mountain.

The warning comes months after the area was designated as Jamaica’s first World Heritage Site and the first World Heritage mixed site in the Caribbean.

Addressing a Jamaica Information Service ‘Think Tank’ last week, Hanna made it clear that the regulations governing World Heritage Sites will be rigidly enforced.

And she says the Jamaica Cultural Development Trust has been given the responsibility to monitor, manage and enforce the regulations that are required to make sure that the area remains a heritage site.

The minister also revealed that a public education campaign has already been launched to raise public awareness about the significance of a World Heritage Site and its protection.
