There is uncertainty this afternoon over the reason behind the sudden closure of MegaMart’s Waterloo Road supermarket and department store.

MegaMart posted on its Facebook page around 3 o’clock this afternoon that entity was being closed for "emergency maintenance".

It did not offer any further details.

Contacted this afternoon MegaMart’s CEO, Gassan Azan, said he was overseas and insisted that the supermarket was being closed for maintenance reasons.

In the meantime, the South East Regional Health Authority says MegaMart voluntarily decided to close.

MegaMart says it will reopen at 10 a.m tomorrow .

This afternoon, more than a dozen workers were seen making their way home, however, they were tight-lipped about the reason for leaving work.

Customers who turned up also said they found the notice of closure very strange.
