Winston Fletcher, president of the St Catherine Co-operative Credit Union, said the institution will be working with the local chamber of commerce, parish council and other entities, through partnerships in terms of loans, to help drive economic growth in the parish.

"We remain focused on the development of the community in which we operate as, without you, we would not progress this far," Fletcher said.

The credit union's president said that despite the challenging times, the organisation remains relevant to the growth and financial lives of many persons.

He said that the organisation has established a mobile unit which has moved into the nook and cranny of the parish to encourage growth in membership.

The St Catherine Co-operative Credit Union is 38 years old and the milestone is been celebrated with a number of activities throughout the parish.

The credit union yesterday began its week of activities at the Old Harbour Road Church of God of Prophecy in the parish.

"We will be having a talent contest; we want to have the full participation of staff, members and well-wishers throughout all branches," marketing manager Maxine Fagan said.

The St Catherine Co-operate operates in Linstead, Lluidas Vale, Portmore, Old Harbour, and Spanish Town and has a membership of more than 34,000.
