The Ministry of Education says the payment of salaries and allowances at the new rates agreed under the 2015-2017 Heads of Agreement will be paid on Monday.
The Ministry says due to the magnitude of work involved in computing the new salaries and allowances, and given the short work week, it was unable to meet tomorrow’s deadline.
It says it has consulted with the Jamaica Teachers’ Association and it has been agreed that next Monday is the best option to facilitate the payment of the new salaries and allowances to teachers.
The education ministry says it is consulting with trade unions for non-academic staff.
The ministry says the retroactive portion of the new salaries and allowances will be paid next month.
