UPDATE: Body of Havendale man feared drown found

The body of 23-year-old Mickail Betancourt was found by the police this afternoon in Chepso district, Portland.

The deceased, who is of a Havendale, St Andrew address, is suspected to have drowned while swimming in a river in Claverty Cottage, Portland yesterday.

The Buff Bay police, with assistance from the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard, launched a search for the body.

Reports are that about 4:30 p.m. Betancourt was among a group of persons swimming at the river when he allegedly got into difficulties and submerged. The police were contacted and the Jamaica Defence Force Coast Guard called in for reinforcement.

The body has since been removed to the morgue.
