A Manchester man who left six of his licensed firearms unattended while he was overseas has been charged with negligence after the guns were stolen by thieves.

The police say David McMorris was charged with breaching the Firearms Act.

He is to appear in court tomorrow.

It is reported that McMorris recently travelled overseas and left the guns inside a safe in his Mandeville house.

While away thieves reportedly broke into his house and stole the weapons.

The law requires that licensed firearm holders submit their weapons to the police or the Firearm Licensing Authority whenever they leave the island.
