Top 7 Apps for Christmas

This Christmas, do things a little differently. Download mobile apps that help to make Christmas socials more interactive.

Ink Cards

Christmas cards can be very expensive items to purchase throughout the season. Ink Cards by Sincerely Inc offers a new and convenient way to send real greeting cards to friends. Not just an image tag or share via social media. Create real cards by adding images of your family taken directly from a mobile device by Apple. Users can also choose from image content within the app, order, then have the items shipped directly to the friend or family member at Christmas time. The greeting cards are printed on 5 x 7-inch glossy paper and users can choose to have them mailed in an embossed envelope for a more personalised appeal. The app has been updated since the beginning of the month and Apple device users have the option to track the status of the postage.

Red Stamp

The Red Stamp Cards Incorporated company developed an application to personalise and purchase greeting cards. The app allows users to select from over 2,000 designs, add personal family photos, then choose from the options to post to social media, order and ship hard copies of seasonal cards to friends and family, or have them mass produced and shipped for hand deliveries.

The last update was November 17 of this year. It's size is 14MB and requires Android 4.0.3. It has been consistently featured on international talk shows for its creativity and resourcefulness.

Christmas Ringtones

This application is an easy access to a library of popular Christmas songs that can be downloaded for mobile phone notification ringtones. The downloading process is easy and there are more than enough ringtones to cover the season. The Christmas Ringtones application for Windows phones is free, but has in-app purchases. It is rated 4.6 out of 5 stars on Windows store with average customer ratings from approximately 600 ratings.

There is a similar app with the title 'Christmas Ringtones 2015' available on Google Play for Android users but from a different mobile application developer.

Christmas Melody Carols

The Christmas Melody Carols mobile application may not have the best user interface for Windows phone but it does help with the search for Christmas carols, prayers and stories. Through the app, users can easily access an online library or YouTube to listen to Christmas tracks by popular artistes.

It would be more enjoyable if all the content were available directly within the user interface, but it is an app that is still developing. It gets listed in the top seven apps for Christmas because it still is entertaining and provides more than just music.

Christmas Radio

If you have the Christmas spirit, this is the mobile app for you. It provides the link to Internet radio stations that are usually Christmas-themed during the holiday. It reminds users of the many songs that circulate the airwaves during Christmas. It even has the North Pole Radio for children listening in. The app is improving with access to radio stations in languages other than English. It is on iTunes and Google Play.

Allthecooks Recipes

It is important to have a guide during the preparation of meals, especially for Christmas and other events celebrated during the month of December. The Allthecooks Recipes app is available on iTunes for iOS, Google Play for Android and Windows Store. Users will have access to over 150,000 recipes organised by ingredients, type, time and occasion. The nutritional information as well as shopping guide lists for selected recipes are also available. Allthecooks is a social community for amateur and professional chefs to share ideas and recipes. The latest version was updated in October and now receives a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars across the various mobile platforms.

Elf Yourself

Introduced by Office Depot, this mobile application has been a comedic relief for mobile phone users at Christmas time. Elf Yourself allows users to create elves that dance to a selected track. It acts as a greeting card, a message or just for plain fun. New dances, cat characters and routines for Hanukkah, among other occasions, have been added to the diverse themes. Apple iOS and Android device users have the official version, but there have been a few releases of versions for Windows phone users. With the recent update in October, the application requires at least 45MB of internal phone memory.
