Portmore police probing woman's murder after complaints about political flags at her gate

The Police in Portmore, St Catherine say they are yet to establish a motive for last night’s killing of a woman in Newlands in the parish.

The dead woman has been identified as Sandy Forbes.

There have been speculations that her murder may be linked to politics, but Head of St Catherine South division, Senior Superintendent Noel Christie, says the police are unable to make that link at this stage.

SSP Christie says Forbes was walking along the Newlands main road when a motor vehicle drove up.

He says men armed with guns opened fire hitting Forbes.

SSP Christie says she was taken to the Spanish Town Hospital where she died.

He notes that the attack came days after she filed a police report about the presence of political flags being posted in the vicinity of her house.

SSP Christie says the flags created tension in the community.

Hours after the shooting another man was attacked in the Newlands area.

Head of St Catherine South police says the man was stabbed and injured and was taken to hospital where he died.

SSP Christie says the police are treating the incidents separately at this stage.

Meanwhile, he says the police have stepped up their presence in the area to ease tensions.
