Customs Department prepares for Christmas rush, to extend opening hours

Published:Thursday | December 3, 2015 | 12:00 AM

Starting Monday, the Jamaica Customs Department will extend opening hours at its collections and accounts units at Customs House in Newport East and Montego Bay by an hour each day.

The extended opening hours are to facilitate the anticipated increase in shipments associated with the usual Christmas rush.

Both facilities will also be opened on Saturday, December 12 and Saturday, December 19, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to facilitate customers.

In addition, entries that are passed from the Night Lodgement System will also be available for pickup and staff will be available to address queries arising from these entries on both Saturdays, as well.

The agency has also undertaken a comprehensive reallocation of staff to ensure that more of them will be available for frontline duties, during the season.
