A member of the Bushman Gang in St Andrew has been sentenced to 20 years imprisonment at hard labour.

He is Jelonie Phillips, otherwise called ‘Batlass’, of Chedwin Gardens, Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Phillips, who is recognised as a high ranking member of the gang, was charged by detectives from the National Strategic Anti-Gang Unit for illegal possession of an M-16 Assault Rifle and two counts of illegal possession of ammunition in October 2013.

The police say Phillips’ conviction sends the clear message that they will continue to "relentlessly perform their duties and ensure that more criminal kingpins are brought to justice".
