INDECOM questions cops linked to shooting of woman in St James car chase

Two St James cops have been questioned for their role in a car chase that left a woman injured in the parish last Friday. 

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) made the disclosure in a release last evening.

INDECOM says the cops were questioned yesterday in the presence of their attorneys. 

Their firearms have been taken out of circulation and packaged for submission to the Government Forensic Laboratory for analysis.

INDECOM says a group of cops signalled a car to stop in the vicinity of the Westgate Shopping Centre in St James, but the driver failed to comply. 

Two cops in an unmarked police vehicle reportedly pursued the car along several roadways in Montego Bay. 

Upon reaching the vicinity of the Calvary Baptist Church and Jarrett Park, the police allegedly discharged their weapons.

The car did not stop, but proceeded towards Mount Salem and was allegedly shot at by the police.

The car eventually turned into the parking lot of the West Jamaica Conference Centre where the drier reportedly exited the car and ran.

It was then discovered that a female passenger had been shot. 

She has been admitted at the Cornwall Regional Hospital.

The driver remains on the run. 

Meanwhile, INDECOM says it is probing four other alleged police shootings at this time.
