Soldiers allegedly kill correctional officer during altercation

The alleged killing of a correctional officer by members of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) last night in Bog Walk, St Catherine is now being probed by detectives from the St Catherine North Division and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM).

The dead correctional officer, who works at the St Catherine Adult Correctional Facility, has been identified as 22-year-old Roman Bent of Ackels district, Kitson Town, St Catherine.

Reports are that Bent was involved in an altercation with two members of the JDF about 10 p.m. when he was shot. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.
