Denise Eldemire-Shearer gets prestigious fellowship award
Professor Denise Eldemire-Shearer has been awarded Fellow status from the Gerontological Society of America (GSA), the world's oldest and largest interdisciplinary organisation devoted to research, education, and practice in the field of ageing.
"I am humbled to have been nominated by my peers and truly honoured to be awarded this fellowship. I anticipate that this new status will enhance future work in the field of gerontology here at home and in the region," Eldemire-Shearer said.
In commending her, the Caribbean Community of Retired Persons (CCRP), of which she is chairman, said the GSA fellowship is the highest class of membership and is a testament to Eldemire-Shearer's outstanding contribution as well as her continuing work in the field of gerontology both locally and internationally.
Responding to accolades from well-wishers recently, Eldemire-Shearer stated, "I am so fortunate that my passion and work coincide."
The award will be presented in November in New Orleans, Louisiana.
