Coffee farmers are to be paid $1,000 more for each box of coffee.
The Mavis Bank Coffee Factory Limited says farmers will be paid $9,000 per box of cherry coffee effective Tuesday October 18.
Managing Director Norman Grant says under the arrangement, coffee farmers will receive a first payment of $8,000 per box then a final payment of $1,000 for each box.
Grant says the increase in the price paid to farmers is due to improvements in the quality of coffee this year.
The increased price will be paid by Mavis Bank and Wallenford Coffee Company, which together purchase most of the Blue Mountain Coffee crop.
Grant says Mavis Bank is still in negotiations with Japanese importers about the price of this year’s crop.
