The official count of ballots is continuing in all parishes at this hour, two days after Monday’s local government elections.

The current results show the Jamaica Labour Party in control of eight local authorities and the People’s National Party five.

A 5-5 tie was declared in St Thomas.

Political watchers are keenly observing proceedings in that parish.

The Director of Elections, Orrette Fisher says if the tie remains after the official count, the returning officer will have to cast the deciding vote.
