The Jamaica Council of Churches has announced a peaceful protest to denounce violence against women and children, especially girls dubbed - Thursdays in Black.

The initiative was launched late last week at the Webster Memorial Church in St Andrew and calls for church members to wear black on Thursdays to signal the church's reproach of the rape and murder of women and girls.

Thursdays in Black is part of a wider movement by the World Council of Churches.
