The St Catherine North police have identified the man who was shot dead on Sunday night by cops in March Pen Road, Spanish Town.

The police say the deceased is 18-year-old Andrade McDonald of a March Pen Road address.

Up to late yesterday evening, police personnel were maintaining a strong presence in the March Pen Road area following protests by angry residents who mounted roadblocks along sections of the Spanish Town bypass to protest McDonald's killing.

The police say, a team was on patrol in the March Pen Road community on Sunday night when McDonald opened fire at them.

They say the fire was returned and he was shot dead.

However, residents have disputed the events of the shooting and are claiming that the man was shot in cold blood.

The incident is being probed by the Independent Commission of Investigations.
