Persistent trough forces continuation of flood warning - Met Service

Published:Sunday | April 23, 2017 | 12:00 AM

A flash flood warning remains in effect for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Ann, St Mary, Portland, St Thomas, Kingston and St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon and Manchester.

It is effective until 5 p.m. today.

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica says a persistent trough across the western Caribbean and Jamaica continues to influence the weather conditions across the island.

Satellite imagery and Radar reports indicated that light to moderate showers affected sections of most parishes last night through this morning, with greater intensities across eastern and central parishes.

Consequently, the Met Service is forecasting showers, which could be heavy at times, to continue to affect sections of central and eastern parishes today and tonight.

It says flash flooding is therefore imminent or likely over some low-lying and flood-prone areas of these parishes.
