Proposal for changes to development projects approval time being finalised

The Economic Growth Council (EGC) is to submit in two weeks a proposal for reducing the time it takes for approving development projects.

A subcommittee of the EGC is currently finalising the document.

EGC Member Hugh Hart says development proposals are taking too long to be approved.

Hart, who was speaking at the quarterly report of the EGC on Thursday, said the aim is to reduce the approval time to 90 days and there is no reason that it cannot be achieved.

He says development is the engine of economic growth and job creation and it is important for the approval process to be streamlined.

Hart says once the approval process is fixed then the path for Jamaica to achieve five per cent growth in three years will be easier.
